BRUNSWICK — It was another strong outing for the Down East Family YMCA Sharks as they continue their championship-season swim events. After finishing third at the YMCA Swimming State Championships the week before the Sharks snagged a fifth-place finish at the Maine Swimming Winter Championships. They were one of only five teams to break the 1,000-point mark, finishing with a final score of 1,849. That put the team just ahead of the Mid Maine Dolphins-Waterville (974) but just behind the Westbrook Seals (2,012.05). A team from the MDI YMCA finished in eighth place with a score of 663.

A large group of walkers (24) gathered at the Poland Spring Preservation Park last Wednesday. We started out on one of the trails in the woods, but ended up going to the road because we were sinking into the snow. We walked from the Park up the hill and around the Maine State Building and back down. It was a pretty day and there were lots of conversations going on while walking.
Lewiston man arrested on stolen gun charge
Mar. 25—A Lewiston man was arrested Wednesday and charged with a gun crime after the car he was riding in was stopped on the Maine Turnpike in Kennebunk. Police said Abdulkadir Ahmed, 18, was charged with receiving stolen property, a firearm, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison, according to a statement released Friday by Shannon Moss, public information officer for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Barry Hathorne leaving Edgecomb planning board
After 23 years, Barry Hathorne is leaving the Edgecomb Planning Board. On March 21, Selectman Mike Smith announced Hathorne decided not to continue on the board. “He informed us he decided to step away,” Smith said. Planning board alternate Phil Haas will replace Hathorne. Selectmen are seeking to fill two alternate seats.
