NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- One person died and two others were hurt in a fire at an illegally converted house in the Bronx on Sunday, officials said.

According to fire officials, the flames broke out just before 2 p.m. at a two-story house on Evergreen Avenue near Westchester Avenue in Soundview.

Over 100 firefighters were at the scene of the two-alarm fire which was placed under control by 3 p.m.

Three people suffered smoke inhalation and burns, officials said.

Two of them made it out on their own with minor injuries.

Firefighters found the another person unconscious on the second floor. The victim died in the house, authorities said.

The victim’s identity was not immediately released.

The flames started on the second floor and there was no official cause determined.

The fire was deemed suspicious and is being investigated by Fire Marshals according to FDNY Deputy Chief James Donlevy.

The building owner had numerous violations from the Department of Buildings, including for illegal occupancy and for failing to obey vacate orders, according to records.

The house had been a two-family building that was split into numerous rooms by the landlord with a bathroom on each floor, the Daily News reported.

An investigation remains ongoing.
