Woman dies on I-580 at 238 connector: CHP

A 28-year-old who appeared to have jumped out of a car died Monday morning at Interstate Highway 580 and the 238 connector.

A 28-year-old woman from Turlock who appeared to have exited out of a car died Monday morning at Interstate Highway 580 and the 238 connector in Castro Valley.

The California Highway Patrol reported the accident about 5 a.m.

Officer Daniel Jacowitz told KTVU that early reports indicate the woman jumped out of a vehicle, carrying several others, and began to walk along the road.

She was struck by a Honda CRV driven by a 71-year-old Castro Valley woman who was eastbound on I-580, Jacowitz said.

She was pronounced dead on scene. 

Both drivers stayed and cooperated, the CHP said. 

Jacowitz said the death was "tragic" and "avoidable."
