Charles Town Races hosted its first stake of the year this past Saturday, and the stakes action continues April 20 with the Confucius Say. As the new racing week kicks off, here’s a quick look at who’s hot among trainers and jockeys. We looked at the last three weeks of racing at Charles Town and compared how often jockeys and trainers won to what their takeout-adjusted odds would have predicted. Jockeys must have made at least 10 starts to appear on the list, and trainers, more than five. Here’s what we found:
First Black Female Trainer Honored in Charles Town
Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races and the city of Charles Town, W.Va. today announced the dedication of a commemorative panel of images and milestones honoring Sylvia Rideoutt Bishop, the nation's first Black female horse trainer. Bishop was a lifetime resident of Charles Town. An unveiling ceremony took place on April 12 and included members of her family, officials from the city of Charles Town including Mayor Bob Trainor and City Councilmember Priscilla Rodd, and representatives from Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races. The 42"x36" tribute is permanently affixed between 111 and 109 N. Charles Street in Charles Town.

Large new Hallmark store planned for Leesburg shopping center
It appears Leesburg is about to get a brand new — and apparently very large — Hallmark store. The new store is coming to the Leesburg Plaza on East Market Street. The Burn has learned that Hallmark is planning to take the space that was previously home to the Books-A-Million bookstore. Books-A-Million closed last September.
