Bryant throws TD to Mangieri in OT as Northwestern beats Minnesota 37-34
EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Ben Bryant threw a 25-yard touchdown to Charlie Mangieri in overtime, Bryce Kirtz set a career high with 215 yards receiving and caught two TDs, and Northwestern rallied from 21 down to beat Minnesota 37-34 on Saturday night. Bryant found Mangieri in the left side of the end zone for the winning score on the first play after Minnesota’s Dragan Kesich kicked a 20-yard field goal. Fans in the student section poured onto the field, celebrating a rare win for a program that has also been engulfed in a hazing and abuse scandal. A.J. Henning caught a tying touchdown in the closing seconds of regulation. The Wildcats overcame another dazzling performance by Minnesota’s Darius Taylor, who ran for 198 yards and two scores, and pulled out the win after they looked like they were headed toward a lopsided loss. Northwestern (2-2, 1-1 Big Ten) scored two touchdowns early in the fourth quarter to pull within seven. The Wildcats tied it in the closing seconds of regulation when Henning caught an 11-yard TD from Bryant, and came away with their second win in three games after losing 12 in a row.
A Baseball Legend and a Crime Boss Walk Into an Illinois Building
This crazy Illinois story involves a baseball announcer legend, a famous mobster, and a building with hundreds of secrets and underground tunnels. Chicago is an amazing city and in the 20s and 30s, I would've loved to see that city in its prime. It's also been home to some of the most famous gangsters of all time like Al Capone and Frank Nitti. You may not recognize Nitti as much as Capone, but he took over for the crime boss after he was sent to prison for tax evasion. When he died he was worth millions, but none of that money was ever found.
Sebastian Munoz pulls away for 3-shot lead in LIV Golf-Chicago
SUGAR GROVE, Ill. (AP) — Sebastian Munoz quickly pulled away from a crowd at the top on Saturday, playing his opening five holes in 5-under par on his way to a second-round 8-under 63 and a three-shot lead in LIV Golf-Chicago. Munoz was part of a five-way tie for the lead after the first of three rounds. He started with three straight birdies at Rich Harvest Farms, then he holed out from 123 yards on the par-4 fifth hole for an eagle. Munoz was at 13-under 129, three clear of Anirban Lahiri, who had a bogey-free 66. Abraham Ancer birdied six holes in a seven-hole stretch late in his round for a 66, leaving him tied for third with Dustin Johnson (66) and Thomas Pieters (67). They were five shots behind.

Two NIC-10 teams that lost their QB; One is rising with defense
Football fortunes can unravel quickly when the quarterback position isn’t right, something the Chicago Bears have seemed intent on proving for decades. Guilford and Jefferson weren’t supposed to have to worry about that. Both teams had underclassmen who passed for more than 1,000 yards last year. But neither are on the team this year and their offenses have struggled. Guilford, though, might be finding its footing again behind a rising defense, as the Vikings showed by routing Jefferson 48-8 Saturday.

Livatino sets school record for passing yards in loss to GBS
The first play from scrimmage set the tone for the kind of night junior quarterback Colin Livatino was about to have at Lazier Field on Friday night. Livatino found senior wide receiver and cornerback Keron Pryor for an 81-yard touchdown pass that would just be the start of Livatino’s night under center. Then, just 10 minutes later, Livatino found senior running back Damarion Timberlake for a 55-yard screen pass. Yet, even after setting a school record for passing yards with 406, Livatino’s passing wasn’t enough to lift Evanston into the win column against Glenbrook South.

The Gophers take on Northwestern tonight (6:30, BTN, 100.3-FM) and will try to get back on the winning track after their 31-13 loss at North Carolina last week.
