Chicopee police raising money for Officer Mark Wilkes after ‘serious medical event’

The Chicopee Police Department is raising money for a police officer in the ICU after a “serious medical event” Sunday.

Officer Mark Wilkes was part of the Chicopee Police and Fire Departments’ annual Battle of the Badges Hockey game earlier in the day Sunday. The police department won and Wilkes returned home, the department said.

But around 7:30 p.m. Wilkes “was not feeling well,” the department stated. He called 911 and asked for an ambulance. While on the way to the hospital, Wilkes had a “serious medical event,” the department said. It required CPR.

“These life-saving measures continued the entire ride to the hospital,” the department stated.

The police department stated many people have reached out wanting to help the family. They set up a way to send donations at the Polish National Credit Union and through Venmo.

“Officer Wilkes’s family, along with the Chicopee Police Department would like to thank the community for all of their support,” the police department wrote.

Donations can be made in the form of cash or check Polish National Credit Union. Checks can be made payable to the Chicopee Police Association and “please put Mark Wilkes name in the memo field,” the department said. For those looking to donate through Venmo, the account is @CPD-Association.

The Chicopee Police Department is raising money by selling these decals, to benefit Officer Mark Wilkes after a "serious medical event" Sunday.

The department is also selling window decals at the station. The decals are $5 and can be picked up Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Traffic Bureau window.

“Officer Wilkes is showings of [sic] progress and continues to fight every day,” the department said, adding that visitations are limited “in order to allow Mark to get the rest he needs.”
