Coach Pitch All-Stars win travel ball tournament
The Barnwell 7/8 All-Star Coach Pitch team went 4-0 to win an 8u travel ball tournament last weekend. “They were put at a disadvantage by us coaches by only letting them use USA rec ball bats while the other teams were using USSSA travel ball bats. We did this so we could see what kind of team we had and how well they could play because next weekend is our district tournament for rec ball,” said Chris Yancey, one of the coaches. “Super proud of every one of them. They had ups and downs and kept fighting.”

At 108 years old, Sister Doreatha Gillis-Bishop of Barnwell is the oldest member of District 10 Order of the Eastern Star, PHA. She was honored on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023 at the Four Mile Missionary Baptist Church in New Ellenton. She was given a hanging wall plant presented by GSA Gwendolyn Walker and District Patron L. Keith Mitchell.
Orangeburg Co. School District to provide free summer meals for children
ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WOLO)—Free meals for children 18 years and younger will be provided during the summer as part of Orangeburg Co. School District’s Summer Meals Program. The meals include breakfast and/or lunch and will be available from June 8—June 29 at several OCSD schools. Depending on participation, certain locations will extend the program until July 13.
Large amounts of heroin, other drugs found during Orangeburg traffic stop, man charged
ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) — A man was arrested after Orangeburg County deputies found large amounts of drugs in his car during a traffic stop, officials said Thursday. Deputies have arrested Bradley Hollington, 23, after deputies tried to pull him over for a broken license plate light and found 675.2 grams of heroin, 29.5 grams of marijuana, a pistol, and ammunition inside a gray and black bookbag in his possession.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — We're not even past the first day of the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season, and already, we may soon have the first named storm of the year. The National Hurricane Center said late Thursday that a large blob of showers and storms that was centered in the Gulf of Mexico has now become Tropical Depression Two. (The reason it's two, and not one, is that the National Hurricane Center determined a subtropical storm formed in the Atlantic back in January. The assessment was made after the storm dissipated, so it didn't get much coverage when it came and went.)
