Ryan Mazzocco thought he had no chance of rescuing the man in the burning apartment house he was driving past. Mazzocco, 51, had twice tried to enter the black and flame- and smoke-filled apartment on the second floor of 2804 Liberty St. on the morning of March 8 to see if he could rescue a man in his 70s whom the downstairs tenant said might still be home.
Local Trio Completes 4x4x48 Challenge
The rains, heavy winds, snow and sunshine, was no match for three local athletes who took part in a physical challenge for charity. The 4x4x48 challenge began on Friday, where three friends were planning on running four miles, ever four hours for 48 hours total to raise money for Brooklyne's Beacons a non-profit which supports families of pediatric cancer patients. The non-profit began after an 18 month old, Brooklyne lost her life to Acute Myeloid Leukemia and complications from a lung infection.
