Coming Soon To New Haven
Gioia, which means “joy” in Italian, will be opening at 150 Wooster Street, New Haven, with a restaurant, market, gelataria, and rooftop bar opening in phases. The owners say their goal is to offer Italian food and beverages in a casual and fun setting in this historic part of New Haven in the spot that used to house Tony & Lucille’s. The menu will include pastas and pizzas, including vegetarian and vegan offerings, and house made gelato. The market will be stocked with Italian provisions and prepared grab-and-go items. The website www.gioianewhaven.com/ and social channels (@gioianhv) will provide the opening dates, perhaps as soon as in the coming weeks.
Valley (Street) Ready To Rise Again
The Valley Street Townhouses have almost all come down, and are ready to rise. Demolition is almost complete of the 40 circa-1965 two-story townhouses at 210 – 290 Valley, as work has begun on the latest remaking of a development in town. All but a handful of the residences remained standing as of the end of work Tuesday.
Connecticut Fugitive Arrested in New York
A fugitive from Connecticut who was wanted for shooting up a home in New Britain, has been captured in New York. U.S. Marshals apprehended 35 year old Luis Minaya of Waterbury in New York on Wednesday. Minaya is accused of firing several shots at his ex-girlfriend’s home in New Britain last month. He was also wanted for seven active arrest warrants here in Connecticut, ranging from assaulting police to sexual assault. Minaya is now being held at Rikers Island Correctional Facility as he awaits extradition to Connecticut, where he faces charges that include first-degree reckless endangerment, illegal discharge of a firearm, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, and criminal possession of a firearm.

FBI offering $10,000 reward in case of now missing four-year-old, items also missing
A reward is still being offered in the case of a now missing four-year-old girl out of Connecticut. The Ansonia Police Department in conjunction with the F.B.I. and Connecticut State Police are looking for the public’s help in the continuing search for Vanessa Morales. In addition to searching for Vanessa, police are looking for the following items that Christine Holloway, the girl’s mother who was found dead, used in taking care of Vanessa. A Graco (unknown model) car seat with base and possible attached teething key ring, a multi-colored polka dot comforter, and an Eddie Bauer First Adventure backpack diaper bag color heather grey. These items may be with Vanessa or may have been discarded.
