Missing Person being sought
On Thursday at approximately 6:00PM. LaSalle County deputies located an abandoned vehicle in the Otter Creek Township area. The vehicle is related to a missing person’s investigation from the Joliet Police Department. 63 year old Amos D. Morgan, of Joliet, was reported missing two weeks ago. Amos was last seen in the Streator area on May 10th.

CHICAGO — A Joliet woman admitted in federal court that she used a series of threats and intimidation to exploit an elderly man out of more than $1.6 million. Lee Turner, also known as Ashley Turner, 40, was found guilty Wednesday of using a facility of interstate commerce to promote and carry on unlawful activity, according to the United States Attorney’s Office.

Betty Nieswender, a resident of Sunny Hill Nursing Home in Will County, celebrated her 101st birthday on April 28, 2023. Sunny Hill Nursing Home’s Administrator, Maggie McDowell, described Betty as a beloved member of their family who is known for being a social butterfly and friendly face. Betty was born in Menomonie, Wisconsin, but her family moved to Joliet when she was three years old, where she has lived for the past 98 years. Betty attributes her longevity to good genes, as her mother lived to be almost 97. Her hobbies include crafting, needlepoint, bingo, and participating in all social events happening around Sunny Hill.

On display in the Gaylord Building’s first-floor gallery through July 14 is "Reclaiming the Narrative: Restoring Black Voices to the Story of Joliet". The Lewis University History Center partnered with Second Baptist Church, Mount Zion Baptist Church, The National Hook-up of Black Women Joliet Inc., and Warren-Sharpe Community Center on this project, which focused on regional historical collections and allowed them to broaden their scope and facilitate the stories of historically marginalized peoples. In turn, this served to broaden the scope of the collection of the Adelmann Regional History Collection (ARHC) at Lewis University.

We have completed another important milestone on our path to merging with St. Augustine College. On Thursday, May 18, 2023 we submitted the Change of Control application to the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). As outlined in their processes, HLC will now assign a review team to the merger proposal and will schedule a visit to be held in August or September. The visit will also include representatives from the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE).
