Man gunned down at apartment complex Monday night in east KCMO, police say

A man was gunned down at an apartment complex in east Kansas City, Missouri, on Monday night, police said.

The shooting happened just before 7 p.m. in the 5100 block of Hickory Road.

Officers were called to the scene on reports of shots fired. But as officers were en route, the call was upgraded to a shooting.

Police located the man, identified as 28-year-old Mauliek Taylor, next to a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. He died at the scene.

An initial investigation indicated Taylor was involved in an altercation in the parking lot with "one or more suspects" before the shooting.

Investigation into the incident, which marked the 19th homicide of the year in KCMO, is ongoing.
