Illinois awarded over $75 million to address abandoned mine property statewide
SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is accepting public comment through May 22nd about the abandoned mine lands reclamation projects that have been selected for work through a federal program. Over $75 million has been awarded for some of the sites, which include local properties in Bureau and LaSalle County. Some of the issues to be addressed would be tailing or spoils piles and open vertical mine shafts.

Reception in Geneseo for Holocaust art winners and new book
This Sunday, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., RutabagA Studio and Art Gallery in Geneseo will host the opening reception of the Meyer and Frances Shnurman Holocaust Visual Arts Contest. The artwork was created by students from grades 6-12 in the area to reflect the events and impact of the Holocaust. The exhibit will be in place during regular studio hours, Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through April 1. RutabagA is at 108 North State St., across from Central Theater, Geneseo.

It did not start well for the softball Panthers but it finished better as the EP Lady Panthers pulled out a 9-7 win over Princeton on Friday to improve to 2-1 on the season. IDPH: COVID-19 community level raised in Stark County
CHICAGO (WMBD)– The Illinois Dept. of Public Health and the CDC reported 12 counties in Illinois are at an elevated community level for COVID-19, up from nine the previous week. Those 12 counties are at a medium community level, including Stark County Locally. No counties are at high level.
