Illinois awarded over $75 million to address abandoned mine property statewide
SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is accepting public comment through May 22nd about the abandoned mine lands reclamation projects that have been selected for work through a federal program. Over $75 million has been awarded for some of the sites, which include local properties in Bureau and LaSalle County. Some of the issues to be addressed would be tailing or spoils piles and open vertical mine shafts.

This Sunday, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., RutabagA Studio and Art Gallery in Geneseo will host the opening reception of the Meyer and Frances Shnurman Holocaust Visual Arts Contest. The artwork was created by students from grades 6-12 in the area to reflect the events and impact of the Holocaust.
