Legendary University of La Verne baseball and men's soccer coach, Dr. Owen Lee Wright, passed away earlier this year, after a hard-fought battle with lung cancer. He was 90. Dr. Wright, a native of Bridgewater (Connecticut), was a four-year baseball letterman at Bridgewater College from 1954-1958, graduating with a degree in physical education. In 1961, he received a master's degree in physical education from the University of Illinois and culminated his academic accolades in 1971 with a Ph.D. in Physical Education from the University of Oregon.

Advik Mareedu has been named ITA Division III National Rookie of the Year after an impressive debut season with the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team. Mareedu won both the SCIAC Athlete of the Year and the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year honors, and won 30 singles matches, including the ITA West Region title and the ITA Cup national title.

The 5-foot-1 senior from Cali tallied a remarkable 101 hits on the season. That figure was good for second nationally, trailing only Wichita State shortstop Sydney McKinney’s 103 hits. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team has dominated the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's All-America teams with six players earning honors. Alisha Chulani earned a place in both singles and doubles for the team, which won its second straight national title with a 5-3 victory over Chicago on May 17. Chulani reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III singles championship and was ranked at No. 7 in the final ITA Division III doubles rankings.
