Man Facing Grand Theft Charge After Allegedly Stealing Boat in Clarkston, Removing Parts and Returning it
LEWISTON - A man is facing a pair of felony charges after allegedly stealing a boat, stripping various parts off of the boat, and then returning it. According to court records, on October 3, 2023, the Asotin County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a theft at a mechanic business on 16th Avenue in Clarkston. The owner reported that someone had stolen thousands of dollars in parts from a customer’s boat at the business.
27-Year-Old Clarkston Man Arrested Again For Eluding In Whitman County
COLFAX - A 27-year-old Clarkston man has been arrested again for eluding in Whitman County. The most recent incident occurred Saturday night in Pullman around 8:00. An officer tried to pull over a driver on Bishop Boulevard for suspicion of drunk driving. The driver reportedly failed to stop for the officer and sped off at high speed south out of town on Johnson Road.
Officials study whether to plow rural Nez Perce County road
Deer Creek Road will continue to be unplowed and remain part of a groomed snowmobile trail system on Craig Mountain south of Lewiston this winter, but changes could be coming. The Nez Perce County Board of Commissioners has tasked the road department and sheriff’s office with compiling reports on the road to determine the feasibility of plowing. Commission chairperson Don Beck said at a commission meeting Monday that the road department will analyze changes that may be needed before routine plowing. For example, the road may need widening in spots, some trees along it may need to be removed and the department would have to identify places where snow could be pushed and piled.

Asotin County abruptly raises sales tax
In a surprise move, Asotin County commissioners voted 3-0 Monday in favor of raising the sales tax by 0.2%. Starting in April, the sales tax on purchases made inside Clarkston city limits will be 8.4% and in the remainder of the county, it will be 8.2%. The clock for citizens to initiate a referendum to repeal the tax began ticking Monday. According to state law, the public has seven days from the vote to start the process.
