Up to 10 inches of snow could fall in some parts of Milwaukee area on Saturday

Saturday's forecast got significantly worse overnight for the lakeshore counties as the National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine and Kenosha Counties.

Those areas are now expected to get 6 to 10 inches of snow between noon and Sunday morning.

The rest of southern Wisconsin is under a winter weather advisory with snow accumulations of between 2 and 7 inches expected.

The weather service is forecasting snow Saturday all of southern Wisconsin. But the greatest chance for 6 inches will be along Interstate 94 and south to the Illinois border, said weather service meteorologist Kevin Wagner.

The snow on Saturday will begin falling in southwest Wisconsin in the morning and will move into the southeast by late morning, Wagner said. It will fall throughout the day and will taper off overnight or early Sunday.

"We're still assessing how things are shaking out," Wagner said. "It just really depends on where everything sets up."

The multiple rounds of snow on Saturday, combined with temperatures in the teens and 20s, could make for slippery road conditions. It will be difficult for plows to keep up, Wagner said. He urged drivers to plan extra time to get to their destinations.

Wind chills on Saturday are expected to be in the teens and dip into the single digits in the Milwaukee area. In Madison and to the west, away from Lake Michigan, wind chills could dip to 0 and below.

"We've started off with a warm January," Wagner said. "Now we're getting the cold. Everyone that wanted the cold, here it is."
