Weekly Safety Report: Pedestrian Fatality, Base Jumper Injuries, and Alleged Theft in Moab, Utah
Four incidents occurred in Moab, Utah this week, resulting in a pedestrian fatality, two injured base jumpers, and an alleged theft from the State Park Service. A man in his 50s was walking along U.S. Highway 191 when he was struck by a semi-truck. The incident took place about 10 miles northwest of Moab, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unclear whether he walked into the travel lanes or if the semi hit him on the shoulder.

Obituary: Martin Lockley
Dr. Martin Lockley, a celebrated paleontologist whose work was integral in developing local dinosaur tracksites including the Copper Ridge and Mill Canyon sites, has died. His achievements span multitudes, from winning the All England Schools Championship in shot put (he was born in the Channel Islands, but moved to England in the early 1960s), earning a PhD from the University of Birmingham in Birmingham, England, and becoming an assistant professor of geology at the University of Colorado Denver. He created the Dinosaur Tracks Museum at the university (open from 1996 to 2012), which displayed thousands of specimens from Colorado and Utah.
