Park Director presents 10-year plan to Park Commission
Tuesday afternoon during the monthly meeting of the Nashville Park and Recreation Commission meeting, Park Director Meghan Floyd reported the park wrapped up its third through sixth grade basketball season earlier this month. She said they had two teams participate from Murfreesboro and she was pleased with the growth of the program.
Awards given at the Nashville Chamber of Commerce Banquet
Monday, the Nashville Chamber of Commerce hosted the Annual Chamber Award Banquet. This year’s theme was We Shine Through. Michael and Joanna Howard received the Orange and Black Education award. This award was given to someone that serves the community and that plays a part at the school. Both Michael and Joanna serve the community and the school, and they are lifelong Scrappers. Howard said that receiving this award meant so much to him.
Arkansas hospital names COO
Howard Memorial Hospital in Nashville, Ark., has named Stacy Harberson chief operating officer, KMTB reported Feb. 21. Ms. Haberson has been with the hospital for about a decade, according to the local radio station. Most recently, she served as its radiology director.

HMH announces the new Chief Operating Officer
Yesterday Howard Memorial Hospital announced that Stacy Harberson has accepted the role of Chief Operating Officer. Harberson has been working for HMH for about 10 years as the Radiology Director at HMH. Prior to that she worked for Little River Memorial Hospital in Ashdown and Saint Mary’s Regional Medical center in Russellville.
Watson Chapel slated for tournament tipoff
Regional basketball tournaments begin today as Watson Chapel and other southeast Arkansas high schools look to qualify for their respective state tournaments. The Wildcats and Lady Wildcats both qualified for the 4A South Region Tournament at Nashville. Watson Chapel will be the No. 2 seed in the boys and girls tournaments, which feature the top four teams from conferences 4A-7 and 4A-8.

Trio honored at council meeting
PRESCOTT – Tuesday was honors night at the February meeting of the Prescott City Council. The meeting began with Mayor Terry Oliver recognizing Tony Gillard’s 32-years of officiating youth basketball. Oliver said Gillard also officiates fifth and sixth grade football. Next up was Satara Williams, who was honored for completing 21 hours of training to become certified as a municipal official with the Arkansas Municipal League. Patricia Roberts was also lauded for being certified with the AML, having more than 40 hours of training.
Pike County Extension Office hosting Composting Class next month
On Friday March 8th, the U of A Division of Agriculture Research and Extension Office in Pike County will be hosting a Lunch and Learn Composting class. These classes are offered to educate individuals on effective composting techniques and cover various aspects of composting, from understanding the process to practical implementation.
Rotary considering car show
PRESCOTT – Prescott’s Rotary Club is considering hosting a car show as a potential annual fundraising event. To learn about the ins and outs of hosting such an event, James Kelly, a veteran car show organizer, spoke to the club at its weekly meeting Tuesday. Kelly repeatedly stressed car shows require a lot of work and can be expensive to put on. He told the club not to have high expectations for its first show, should it host one, because it takes time to develop name recognition. He pointed out the club will need trophies, which aren’t cheap, door prizes, best if obtained through a sponsor or donation, and t-shirts. He told the club it would have to raise enough money to pay for these things and everything else would be profit.

Glenwood couple charged with Domestic Battery
A Glenwood couple have been charged with domestic battery and permitting abuse of a minor in the Pike County Circuit Court. On Thursday, February 1st, 28-year-old Michael Shepherd and 28-year-old Cheyanne Hildbrand were interviewed by Pike County Investigator Jason McDonald concerning injuries to the couple’s 3-month-old twins. They were both arrested following an interview that was conducted by McDonald.
