International Paper New Bern Mill Helps End Period Poverty Campaign
Employee volunteers at the International Paper New Bern Mill, along with West Craven High School student volunteers and United Way volunteers will assemble 500 feminine care (femcare) kits from 3-5 p.m. on March 29, 2023, at West Craven High School. The event will supply femcare kits to local schools and after school programs to provide clean menstrual products and encourage girls to stay in school.

Aurora traffic to be impacted by mine crossing this week
AURORA, Beaufort County — Hwy. 33 west of Aurora may see traffic disruptions throughout the week while mine traffic is crossing the roadway. The Town of Aurora and Aurora Volunteer Fire Department each posted on Facebook Monday morning about the mine traffic, "Highway 33 west of Aurora will see mine traffic crossing the roadway preparing for the mine expansion. Portable stop signs are in place and a flagger will be present to assist with the equipment crossing. Mine traffic will only cross when highway traffic is clear in both directions. Highway 33 traffic will have the right of way, but there may be times that traffic is stopped so the roadway can be cleaned. Please use caution in this area as construction activities continue."

Wreck near Taco Bell ties up Highway 70 traffic Thursday
— A two-vehicle accident near Cox’s Restaurant on Highway 70 around lunchtime Thursday looked serious to observers but left no one in either vehicle seriously injured. Morehead City Police Patrol Capt. Tim Guthrie said Thursday afternoon a 2016 Dodge driven by Reagann Garner of Newport turned left onto the highway, heading west out of Taco Bell, and collided with a 2009 Subaru driven by Ronnie Willis, also of Newport.
