Chehalem Park district gets $20K grant to develop aquatics programs
Thanks to a grant from a state philanthropic organization, the Chehalem Park and Recreation District can now develop a new aquatics program. The Oregon Community Foundation announced March 21 that it has awarded CPRD $20,575 for its swim education program. Oregon City equestrian dominates season-opening meet
Oregon City equestrian launched its 2024 season with a victory at the Tri-River Valley Oregon High School Equestrian Teams (OHSET) meet, held from February 15-18 at the Yamhill County Fairgrounds in McMinnville. Leading the individual scoring was senior Anna Hamersly with an impressive 92 points, followed closely by freshman Ava Thomas with 78 points. Softball Game Recap: Canby Cougars vs. Sunset Apollos
Canby was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They wound up on the wrong side of a rough 13-2 walloping at the hands of the Sunset Apollos. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Canby of the 10-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2019.

The Sutter Union High softball team continues to obliterate its competition, capped by a run-rule 24-0 win over Lindhurst in a Pioneer Valley League contest Tuesday to move to 11-0 on the year. Ten of the Huskies’ wins have come by the run-rule as Sutter is leaving no mercy at this stage in the season. Up next for Stefanie Danna’s program is a new team making a trip to Northern California for the weekend. Yamhill-Carlton, of Oregon, will make Sutter its first stop in NorCal Friday at 4 p.m. on the campus of Sutter Union HS.
Lincoln County schools win events in big track meet
Newport’s Layla Newell won the 300-meter hurdles in the huge Jim Barks Grizzly Bear Open at McMinnville, the season-opening meet for the Cubs, Taft and Waldport. Newell was timed in 48.92 seconds to beat a field that included 19 other runners. Some other events had more than 100 participants. Newell also was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 15-3. ...
