Police say they found the person who struck and injured a tow truck driver along Interstate 84 westbound in Portland early Sunday morning.
The injured tow truck driver was released from the hospital Wednesday and is recovering at home, police said.
According to officials, the hit-and-run crash happened at about 6:45 a.m. Sunday between the NE 43rd Avenue exit and the Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard overpass.
The 27-year-old tow truck driver was found injured, lying on the pavement in front of his pickup. He had just finished loading a vehicle when he was struck by a passing vehicle. Witnesses thought the other vehicle also happened to be a tow truck.
On Tuesday, Portland Police got a call from a man who said he saw news coverage of the hit-and-run crash and thought he might have been involved.
Officers examined his black 2019 Ford F350 tow truck and confirmed some minor damage that was consistent with the initial crash.
He told officers he was driving on I-84 around that time when he was “blinded momentarily” by an unsecured tarp that flew off another vehicle and landed on his windshield.
“The driver said he heard a thump but couldn't tell what had happened,” said Portland Police “He said he took the next exit, removed the obstruction, and then went back to see if he could tell if he had hit anything. He was unable to locate a crash.”
At this point, police have not cited or arrested anyone in the incident. Police are no longer looking for another driver in the hit-and-run.
