Many people work or have family members who work at Chuckawalla State Prison. So it may come as a surprise to many people that the state would decide to close down Chuckawalla Prison. Many people will be upset that the state would close it down since they have worked there for many years and have built their lives around their job. Now many people will lose their jobs and have it affect their lives and the lives around them. This doesn’t only affect the lives of those at the prison but it may also affect yours.
Valley fever cases ride high for second year
For the two most recent years on record, the case counts of Valley fever hit rates not seen since 2012. Data from the latest report released by the Arizona Department of Health Services show both 2020 and 2021 had around 11,500 confirmed cases, compared to almost 13,000 in 2012 and a record high of nearly 16,500 in 2011.
Food for Funding: Senior Fundrasing
As tradition goes, the senior trip is what most Seniors look forward to all year- besides graduating of course. Every year, only the seniors get to attend an event at Disneyland called Grad Nite. Beforehand, they must meet certain criteria such as grades and attendance. Part of the trip is funded by the class funds, and partly by the students. The class funds have been accumulated over the year by hosting events such as dances, working the snack shack during sports games, and holding fundraisers.

PV Culinary Club Caters at the Blythe Livestock Show
On Friday January 13th through Saturday the 14th, the PV Culinary Club teamed up with the Blythe 4-H club and catered at the fairgrounds for the Colorado River Livestock Show. The Culinary Club and Blythe 4-H served a tri-tip dinner with baked potatoes, green beans, and bacon bits for FFA, Livestock clubs, and buyers mostly from California and Arizona on Friday January 13th. They served breakfast burritos, burgers, hotdogs, candy, and beverages on Saturday the 14th, basically a snack shack. Overall the service was great according to members of the PVHS Culinary Club.
Blythe FFA Spirit Week is back!
On the week of February 20th, 2023 Blythe FFA Spirit was held at PVHS. FFA Spirit week is a week of the celebration of all things FFA including dress up days and fun activities. Even on a shortened week Blythe FFA still made the most of it and had an awesome week full of fun. FFA week capped off with a meeting on thursday, February 22.

2 People Charged in Connection with Robbery, Assault in Blythe
INDIO (CNS) – Felony charges were filed Wednesday against a 31-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man suspected in a Blythe motel room assault and robbery. Blythe residents Mariha Lee Roberts and Nicholas Dwayne Cretsinger were charged with three felony counts, one each of robbery, cruelty to an elder, and conspiracy to commit a crime, according to court records. Cretsinger was additionally charged with one felony count of false imprisonment.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) is seeking public comments on an Environmental Assessment (EA) that proposes to continue a ban on mining exploration on the riverbed of the Bill Williams River National Wildlife Refuge (NWR). Mining activity on this 2,598-acre area has been prohibited since the early 1980s. This proposal could continue the ban for the next 100 years.
