Minnesota Aurora vs Rochester (5.24.2023)
Minnesota Aurora FC started their second season the USL-W with a 5-0 home win over Rochester FC Wednesday night (5.24) at TCO Stadium. Cat Rapp lead the scoring with two goals, including the first of the game in the fifth minute. The Aurora play next on Saturday at the Chicago Dutch Lions, before returning home Wednesday night vs RKC Soccer Club.

Minnesota Aurora open season in fine form with 5-0 victory over Rochester
Fans arriving as gates opened for Minnesota Aurora's season-opening soccer game Wednesday received supporters scarves, a team poster and a welcomed surprise. Sarah Fuller, a former goalkeeper turned sponsor relations staff member, handed out posters to fans filing into TCO Stadium in Eagan, leaving smiles in her wake. She accommodated hugs, pictures and selfies.
Waseca boys tennis wrap season in MSHSL Individual Sections
Thursday afternoon, members of the Waseca boys tennis traveled to Rochester to compete in the MSHSL Section 1A individual tournament. In past week, Caledonia's junior high golf team swept the conference tournament with 3 its eighth graders placing first, second and third in the tournament. Track and Field: GMLOKS Girls Win 1A True Team Title, Five Teams Make State
Track and field programs GMLOKS, LFCMC, Chatfield, and RPH took on the 1A True Team meet. Of the eight total boys and girls’teams competing from those schools, all finished at least sixth. Seventeen total schools competed. GMLOKS’ girls (981.5) won the 1A True Team title for a fourth straight year (2019, 2021, 2022, 2023) while their boys (889) were runner-up to St Charles (982.5). Chatfield’s girls were 1A runner-up (842) while the boys took fifth (816). LFCMC’s boys (867) and girls (834.5) each took third. RPH’s boys took fourth (844) while the girls took sixth (682). A virtual meet determined “Wild Card” state teams. In addition to the GMLOKS girls’ automatic bid, the GMLOKS boys, both LFCMC teams, and the Chatfield girls made state (RPH’s boys missed by one spot). The headliner was again Aaron Thauwald’s GMLOKS gals group, led for a last time by senior Anika Reiland. One of the state’s top T/F athletes, the speedy competitor again did her thing, winning three races, the 100 (12.39), 200 (25.58), and 400 (59.71). She was the only athlete, boys, or girls, to post three individual firsts. Reiland won the same three events at last year’s meet. Fellow speedster, Chantle Reiland took second in the 100 (12.53) and 200 (25.96), as sprints were a strong point for GMLOKS. Albert Lea Boys Golf is the 2023 Big Nine Conference Champions
The Albert Lea Boys Golf team was in Red Wing on Monday taking part in the Big 9 Conference Tournament at Mississippi National Golf Course. The Tigers entered the tournament in first place in the Big 9, leading Rochester Mayo by just 2 points in the conference standings. The Tigers finished in third place behind Rochester Century and Rochester Mayo. With the third place finish and only finishing one spot behind Mayo, the Tigers claimed their first Boys Golf Big 9 title in 13 years. Along with wrestling winning a Big 9 title this year, it’s the first year Albert Lea has won the conference in any sport since 2016. Contributing to the Tigers score today were senior Drew Teeter and sophomore Archie Nelson who put up a pair of 73’s.(+2) They were followed by sophomore Nick Belshan with an 83 (+12) and senior Tim Chalmers who shot an 84 (+13). The boys next match is the Section 1 AAA tournament at The Jewel in Lake City on May 30th and 31st. The winning team from the section tournament will go to the state tournament in mid June. The top 4 individual scores that are not on the winning team will go to the state tournament as well. Drew Teeter has made back to back trips to the state tournament but the team has gained confidence throughout the year and feels like they are considered as one of the top teams in Section 1 AAA.
‘A beautiful game’: Rochester’s new pre-professional women’s soccer team has big goals
As an attacking center midfielder, Rochester native Jenny Reyna never stops moving on the soccer pitch. “We usually pass the ball a lot,” she said during a recent practice. “We kind of control the game in the center. So our job is really to assist and to move the ball around throughout the field.”
