Bloomington show choir reaches fundraising goal to head to nationals
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- A show choir in Bloomington will be heading to nationals after reaching their fundraising goal.Kennedy High School's Rhythm in Gold qualified for nationals in Branson, Missouri on April 1, but needed to raise $60,000 to make the trip. The choir said, as of Sunday, they've reached that goal.More than 1,000 people attended Rhythm in Gold's grand finale performance on Saturday night. This is the first time in 15 years the choir qualified for nationals.
Paul Harris to make first court appearance in fatal drive-by shooting of pregnant woman
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- A man accused of killing a pregnant woman in St. Paul is due for his first appearance in court Monday.Paul Harris, 24, is charged with second-degree murder in a drive-by shooting.According to a criminal complaint, last Monday evening, Harris pulled up next to a car that the victim was in and shot through the window, hitting 21-year-old Gabriella Dehoyos in the head.The driver and Dehoyos' boyfriend rushed her to the hospital, but she died from her injuries.RELATED: 24-year-old man charged in connection to pregnant woman's shooting deathCourt records say several young children were also in the car at the time of the shooting.Investigators later found a shell casing at Marion Street and St. Anthony Avenue.At the time of the murder, court records show Harris was on supervised release after five years in prison for illegally possessing a firearm.His hearing is set for 9 o'clock Monday morning.

South St. Paul Public Schools employee resigns after child porn arrest
SOUTH ST. PAUL, Minn. -- A South St. Paul Public Schools employee has resigned after the district said he was arrested on child pornography charges.In a letter sent to parents March 13, the district said it is cooperating with local police and other agencies in the investigation.The letter said there does not appear to be a connection to any students from the South St. Paul district.The district has released the name of the employee and said he did not have direct contact with students. WCCO typically does not name arrested parties until they are formally charged with a crime.
Hastings veterans home getting new leadership after complaints
HASTINGS, Minn. -- The state is bringing in new leadership at the Hastings veterans home after complaints about a hostile work environment and its impact on veterans. The veterans affairs commissioner announced Sunday that Deputy Commissioner Douglas Hughes and the home's administrator Mike Anderson were fired.The Pioneer Press previously reported problems raised by caregivers ranging from ignoring safety concerns to retaliation for employees who spoke up.State Sen. Erin Murphy, who leads the Veterans Committee, announced plans for an informational hearing on Tuesday.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The trial begins Monday for one of the teenagers charged in a deadly shooting at Mall of America two days before Christmas.Johntae Hudson, 19, was shot and killed inside Nordstrom, triggering a lockdown for shoppers.Surveillance video from the mall and Nordstrom captured the shooting and the events leading up to it, according to the complaint. The video shows the victim walking with two of his friends and attempting to get on an escalator to the second floor, but was blocked by a group.
