Federal authorities are asking fishing vessels to steer clear of 11 shipwrecks located in a marine sanctuary east of Boston, warning that they could "cause serious damage" to the many historically significant ships that have gone down in the waters since the 19th century.In a news release issued Wednesday, NOAA is requesting that vessels avoid the shipwreck sites in the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, which sits between Cape Ann and Cape Cod. Newton man ID’d in fatal fire caused by smoking materials near bed
Improperly disposed smoking materials likely caused the death of a Newton man when a fire ravaged his home on March 24, State Fire Marshal Jon Davine’s office announced. Scott Patz, 69, died after a fire engulfed his home at 1243 Walnut St., Davine’s office said in a statement. Another person who was injured was able to drive themself to the hospital.

Manchester will receive $959,752 in federal funds to support planning and design for future PFAS purification of the town’s municipal water. The funds came as part of a larger, $13.2 million package benefiting 15 Essex County communities, including Rockport and Gloucester and on Monday, US Congressman Seth Moulton visited Manchester’s Gravelly Pond Water Treatment Plant as part of a tour of all North Shore sites that will receive funding. Other sites on Cape Ann included Pathways for Children in Gloucester and Rockport’s Department of Public Works.

Much of their music is non-denominational. Joan Hollister helped found this chapter of the Threshold Choir after attending a retreat about the organization.
