STARKVILLE, Miss (WTVA) - March 28th is now officially Willie Gay Jr. Day in the city of Starkville. There was an event for Gay at the YMCA plaza on Mississippi State's campus on Thursday afternoon. The event was held to honor his accomplishments so far and just let him know he is appreciated in the city.

Jennifer Jeffries has been writing songs and performing for as long as she can remember, but the Starkville teen didn't get serious about songwriting until she was about 9. "I was writing songs before I even knew how to write on paper, before I even knew how to spell words," she said. "I was always making up a little tune. But I will say around the age of 9 is when I really started picking it up. I was doing it all the time."

Kiwanians hear from Lincoln on state of the airport
On Tuesday, March 26, the Starkville Kiwanians heard from Rodney Lincoln, who has been the airport director for George M. Bryan Field for 20 years. Located at 114 Airport Road, the airport is a city-owned, public-use airport located about three miles southwest of the central business district of Starkville. It was named in honor of World War II veteran and Starkville native George Martin Bryan. The airport is capable of handling small aircraft and offers no commercial flights.
