Blazers hold second Titletown Showcase
VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - Coach Jackson and the Blazers held the second Titletown Showcase. A camp where over 700 high school athletes and collegiate transfers came out to show off their talents in hopes of getting looks from a collegiate program. The college coaches in attendance weren’t just limited to Division ll schools like VSU. Coaches from the SEC, Conference USA, FCS schools and many more were in attendance looking for someone to add to their program.
VHS graduate helps win JUCO World Championship Series
OCALA, FL. – A 2022 Valdosta High School graduate helps College of Central Florida baseball team win the JUCO World Championship Series. JD Smith, a 2022 Valdosta High graduate played for the College of Central Florida this spring as a right-handed pitcher. The College of Central Florida was ranked as the number-one team in the country for NJCAA Division 1 baseball. T Central Florida won the region, which would allow them a spot in the District Championship where they would face Florida Southwestern State College. Central Florida would defeat them 11-3 and 12-6 to clinch a spot in the Florida State Championship series on May 12, 13, and 14th in Lakeland, Florida. They would face and defeat NW Florida State 12-2, and Miami Dade College 6-0, to advance to the championship game where they would again face NW Florida State in the championship game. JD Smith started the championship game and would defeat the NW Florida State Raiders 7-2 and clinched a spot in the JUCO World Series Championship Series in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Brooks Co. High School football coach passes away
QUITMAN, Ga. (WALB) - A Brooks County High School football coach was laid to rest on Sunday. According to the obituary, Mitchell passed on Thursday. In 2019, WALB spoke with Mitchell about waiting for a kidney. Mitchell said he was suffering from a kidney disease called IgA nephropathy and was on peritoneal dialysis.
VLPRA Football & Cheer Registration Extended
Registration will last a few more weeks for Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks & Recreation Authority’s Youth Football & Cheerleading program. VLPRA extended the deadline to July 3rd for the league that now includes girls flag football. The Georgia High School Association recently added girls flag football as a varsity sport, and VLPRA will be offering it to girls from kindergarten through 12th grade. Flag football is also available for boys in kindergarten through 8th grade. Tackle football is open to 2nd through 5th graders and cheerleading is available for kindergarten through 5th grade.
Viking Athletics announces Youth Summer Camps
LOWNDES CO. – The Lowndes County Viking Athletics announces Youth Summer Camps for a variety of sports during June and July. Lowndes County Viking Athletics will host Youth Summer Camps for baseball, cheerleading, soccer, softball, tennis, track, Vikettes basketball, and volleyball starting June 5th.
