Hamburg, NY — Magical Mistress ($9.90) posted her fourth consecutive victory in Wednesday’s (March 27) $14,000 Open Pace for fillies and mares at Buffalo Raceway. The well-traveled Magical Mistress arrived off a victory at Monticello Raceway on March 11 after collecting back-to-back victories at Batavia Downs in February. Assigned to post eight in her Buffalo debut, Magical Mistress took a first-over trip and eventually wore down pacesetter McNatural N in the stretch drive.

RailRiders prepare for opening day
MOOSIC, Pa. — Baseball is back! The RailRiders' season starts on the road on Friday, and next week, they return home to PNC Field in Moosic. The home opener is scheduled for Tuesday, April 2, with first pitch at 6:35. There are 75 home games scheduled. The season opener is Friday in Buffalo against the Buffalo Bisons.

CNY swimmer qualifies for U.S. Open National Championships
Zach Drotar, a swimmer for the Cato-Meridian Otters, qualified for the U.S. Open National Championships while competing in the Speedo Sectionals in Buffalo on Sunday. Jim Funiciello, Drotar’s coach and an esteemed figure in the CNY swimming community, said it’s been many years since a local high school-aged swimmer qualified for the national event and that he couldn’t remember the last swimmer who qualified. Drotar finished in 2:20.59 in the 200-meter breaststroke to qualify for nationals, which are in December in Greensboro, N.C.
