Last evening's shooting investigation has led to an arrest of a 23-year-old Winchester man and charges on a second suspect.

On January 30, 2023, at approximately 3:46 pm, the Winchester Emergency Communications Center received several 9-1-1 calls of reports of gunshots fired near the 1400 block of S. Braddock Street. Witnesses told Winchester Police Department (WPD) officers that shots were fired from a 2018 Nissan sedan. An 18-year-old victim was located in the area where the gunshots were heard. The vehicle was located at approximately 5:21 pm in the 800 block of Berryville Avenue, and Andrew Mudd, Jr. was arrested.

Further investigation determined that Mudd was operating the vehicle, and Trenton Devone Houghton, 21-year-old from Winchester, was identified as the person who fired the gun. Mudd was charged with Discharging a Firearm from a Motor Vehicle, Attempted Malicious Wounding, and Conspiracy to Commit Malicious Wounding. Houghton is currently wanted on charges of Discharging a Firearm from a Motor Vehicle, Attempted Malicious Wounding, and Conspiracy to Commit Malicious Wounding.

After processing the scene and vehicle, a search warrant was executed in the 1600 block of Henry Avenue on January 31, 2023 and a firearm was recovered. The investigation is believed to be connected to multiple shots fired in the 1700 block of Roberts Street on January 18, 2023.

These investigations are ongoing. Anyone with information about the incidents or the whereabouts of Trenton Houghton are asked to contact the WPD at 540-662-4131 or Crime Solvers using the P3 Tips App.
